Szymon Kowalewski (b. 1998) is a cinematographer and camera operator, currently a fourth-year student in the Cinematography Department at the Krzysztof Kieślowski Film School in Katowice. He gained on-set experience while learning from Polish leading cinematographers on productions such as Raport Pilecki (cinematography: Arkadiusz Tomiak), Operation Hyacinth (cinematography: Piotr Sobociński Jr.), The Wedding (cinematography: Piotr Sobociński Jr.), David and the Elves (cinematography: Maciej Lisiecki), Glorious Summer (cinematography: Tomasz Woźniczka), Chopin, Chopin! (cinematography: Michał Sobociński), and Our Revolution: The Love Story of Grażyna and Jacek Kuroń (cinematography: Michał Sobociński).
His work is grounded in the script and the director's intent. He adapts light, color, lens choice, and camera movement to keep the cinematography consistent with the world of the story and in service of the narrative.
Outside of film, he skateboards, composes music, and trains regularly, competing in half marathons and marathons. He is also passionate about analog photography, which remains a parallel field for his visual work.
